This piece consists of 'cycling through' musical material at two levels. The first is at the level of pitch, where pitch-class segments are being iteratively transformed until they return to their initial presentation. The second is at the level of how the musical material is expressed. This includes parameters such as registration, dynamics, and musical characteristics such as tremolo, repeated pitches, trills, and so on, which give the music its characteristic gestalt.
Although the same material is cycled through six times, each occurrence is quite contrasting from the others. There are thus noticeable reappearances of kinds of musical phenomena, yet never a reappearance of the same musical phenomenon.
